The United States military is the largest fighting force in the whole world. One can simply use the numbers to show this overwhelming force. In this paragraph, I’m going to talk about how stupidly big our military is, because it kinda funny. If you combine the budget for the militaries of Germany, the United Kingdom, Russia, France, India, Saudi Arabia, and China; it would not even surpass the military budget of the United States. If we took away the top seven nations and tallied up the military budget of the rest of the world, its still not close. If you look at other powerful nations, they usually have one or two aircraft carriers and some ships that are called “Amphibious Fighters” that carry helicopters. The United States has 10 full sized aircraft carriers and 31 amphibious ships. The top two largest air forces in the world are the United States Air Force and the United States Navy. The United States is the largest arms dealer in the world, and has the largest military corporations like Raytheon, Boeing, and Lockheed Martin.
However, I’m not here to argue the amount that we spend for the military, but how we use it.
First off, let’s talk about how the Pentagon uses the money. The Pentagon accounting is very poorly run and sometimes just fraudulent. One report shows that over the last several years that $21 billion dollars “could not be traced, documented, or explained”. Wait, sorry I said billion, I ment TRILLION. That’s like, let’s socialize healthcare kind of money. Additionally, there has been reports that the Pentagon has been falsifying information in order to make their budget bigger. Basically, the military is not spending all the money they are getting and showing that they are. That’s fraud. And illegal. But, because they are very powerful, it is very hard to audit them. How to solve this problem, get more regulation and better accountants into the military.
Secondly, there are some decisions that the military does that looks confusing. For example, a recent report shows that the some money might be moved from the cyber division into the aircraft carrier sector of the military. Since cyber wars are the future and many are questioning the value of aircraft carriers, this announcement comes to the surprise of many. Additionally, when someone can simply take a part of the budget and use it for their pet project, for example a wall, there is an issue with the budget. This means there is enough money in the military to build a border wall, which begs the question how much more of that money does the military have?
I want to state that I love the military. They are the lead fighting force for global peace and they have created some amazing technologies. However, the actions of a few have created a machine that can ruin the reputation of the military and shows the amount of power the military actually has.
